There is/ There are คืออะไร?

    “There is” และ “There are” มีความหมายว่า “มี” ใช้ในประโยคเพื่อแสดงถึงการมีอยู่ของสิ่งต่าง ๆ หรือบุคคลในสถานการณ์ต่าง ๆ มีความหมายคนละแบบกับ “Has” และ “Have” ที่มีความหมายว่า “มี” (ในลักษณะของการครอบครองหรือเป็นเจ้าของ) 

    โดย There is จะใช้กับคำนามเอกพจน์ (Singular Noun) และคำนามนับไม่ได้ (Uncountable Noun) ส่วน There are จะใช้กับคำนามที่เป็นพหูพจน์ (Plural Noun)

There is/ There are ในประโยคบอกเล่า

    “There is” และ “There are” ใช้ในประโยคบอกเล่าเพื่อแสดงถึงการมีอยู่ของสิ่งต่าง ๆ หรือบุคคลที่มีอยู่ในประโยค เพื่อให้ข้อมูลและสร้างความชัดเจนในประโยคได้

 

    ตัวอย่างการใช้ “There is” และ “There are” ในประโยคบอกเล่า

There is + คำนามเอกพจน์ (Singular Noun) 

• There is a park near my house. (มีสวนสาธารณะใกล้บ้านฉัน)
• There is a pen on the desk. (มีปากกาอยู่บนโต๊ะ)
• There is a bird singing outside the window. (มีนกกำลังร้องอยู่นอกหน้าต่าง)

 

There is + คำนามนับไม่ได้ (Uncountable Noun) 

• There is milk in the refrigerator. (มีนมอยู่ในตู้เย็น)
• There is snow on the ground. (มีหิมะอยู่บนพื้น)
• There is honey in the jar. (มีน้ำผึ้งอยู่ในเหยือก)

 

There are + คำนามพหูพจน์ (Plural Noun)

• There are flowers in the garden. (มีดอกไม้ [จำนวนมาก] ในสวน)
• There are 3 cars in the parking lot. (มีรถ 3 คันในลานจอดรถ)
• There are clouds in the sky. (มีเมฆ [จำนวนมาก] อยู่บนท้องฟ้า)

There is/ There are ในประโยคปฏิเสธ

    ในการปฏิเสธประโยคจะใช้รูป “There is not” หรือ “There isn’t” สำหรับ “There is” และใช้ “There are not” หรือ “There aren’t” สำหรับ “There are”

 

    ตัวอย่างการใช้ “There is” และ “There are” ในประโยคปฏิเสธ

There isn’t + คำนามเอกพจน์ (Singular Noun) 

• There isn’t a cloud in the sky. (ไม่มีเมฆบนท้องฟ้า)
• There isn’t a pen on my desk. (ไม่มีปากกาอยู่บนโต๊ะของฉัน)
• There isn’t a single person in the room. (ไม่มีใครในห้องเลยสักคน)

 

There isn’t + คำนามนับไม่ได้ (Uncountable Noun) มักใช้ในรูป There isn’t any + Noun

• There isn’t any sugar left in the jar. (ไม่มีน้ำผึ้งเหลืออยู่ในเหยือกเลย)
• There isn’t any flour in the kitchen. (ไม่มีแป้งในครัวเลย)
• There isn’t any oil in the engine. (ไม่มีน้ำมันในเครื่องยนต์เลย)

 

There aren’t + คำนามพหูพจน์ (Plural Noun) มักใช้ในรูป There aren’t any + Noun

• There aren’t any apples in the basket. (ไม่มีแอปเปิ้ลในตะกร้าเลย)
• There aren’t any books on the shelf. (ไม่มีหนังสืออยู่บนชั้นวางเลย)
• There aren’t any students in the classroom. (ไม่มีนักเรียนอยู่ในห้องเรียนเลย)

There is/ There are ในประโยคคำถาม

   การใช้ “There is” และ “There are” ในประโยคคำถามจะแบ่งการใช้ออกเป็น 2 ประเภท ตามจุดประสงค์ของสิ่งที่ต้องการจะถาม ดังนี้

 

1.) การใช้ในประโยคคำถาม Yes-No Question: สามารถทำเป็นประโยคคำถามได้โดย  

     การนำ Is/ Are มาขึ้นต้นประโยค เช่น

• Is there a cat in the garden? (มีแมวในสวนไหม?)
• Is there any coffee left in the pot? (มีกาแฟเหลือในเหยือกไหม?)
• Are there any books on the shelf? (มีหนังสือบนชั้นวางไหม?)
• Are there any clouds in the sky? (มีเมฆบนท้องฟ้าไหม?)
• Are there any students in the classroom? (มีนักเรียนในห้องเรียนไหม?)
• Are there any cars in the parking lot? (มีรถในลานจอดรถไหม?)

 

2.) การใช้ในประโยคคำถามที่ต้องการถามจำนวน: สามารถทำเป็นประโยคคำถามได้โดย  

     การใช้โครงสร้าง How many + คำนามพหูพจน์ (Plural Noun) + are there เช่น

• How many books are there on the shelf? (มีหนังสือกี่เล่มบนชั้นวาง?)
• How many students are there in the classroom? (มีนักเรียนกี่คนในห้องเรียน?)
• How many cars are there in the parking lot? (มีรถกี่คันในลานจอดรถ?)
• How many pencils are there on the desk? (มีดินสอกี่แท่งบนโต๊ะ?)
• How many chairs are there in the room? (มีเก้าอี้กี่ตัวในห้อง?)
• How many birds are there in the park? (มีนกกี่ตัวในสวน?)
